HowTo:Pay For Bandwidth

From SWUG

Jump to: navigation, search

The SWUG Internet gateway is paid for by voluntary contributions from mesh users. Funds are only used for monthly buying of bandwidth, gateway hardware and bank charges. No SWUG member receives any renumeration for either hardware or service provision.

We encourage everyone who can to contribute R100 per month to pay for the Internet gateways. In return, contributors receive prioritized bandwidth, while everyone is still able to access the Internet. As the mesh grows, more people will contribute and we shall have a surplus of funds in the account. Once the projected income is sufficient to increase the line speed, we shall do so, ensuring that we don't run out of bandwidth and the community gets the bandwidth it deserves.

All SWUG accounting is automated. SWUG receives deposit notifications from the bank and they are read by custom software, which then manages available bandwidth accordingly. This is all done anonymously, so to prioritize your bandwidth, you must provide your Router number as part of the bank reference.

Payments without the router number reference cannot be used to prioritize traffic and so will be regarded as an (appreciated) anonymous donation. Here is a list of unallocated deposits into the SWUG account.
