How to configure a WinXP wireless laptop for the Scarborough Mesh
1. Email a request for your own mesh IP address to David. Note that your laptop IP address must be different to your router IP address (if you have one).
2. Download the latest version of OLSR from here for either Windows XP or Vista.
3. Click Start-->Connect To-->Show all connections.
4. Right-click on the Wireless Network Connection and select Properties.
5. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in the list and click on Properties.
6. Click on the Alternate Configuration tab (if there is one).
7. Click on Use the following IP address.
8. Enter IP address as 192.168.10.{x} where {x} is the IP that you have been allocated.
9. Enter Subnet mask as 255.255.255.0.
10. Leave Default gateway blank.
11. Enter 168.210.2.2 as the Preferred DNS server.
12. Click OK.
13. Run the OLSR setup.exe and install OLSR with default settings.
14. Double-click on the red switch icon that has appeared on your desktop. It will ask you to reboot your computer. Do so.
15. Once rebooted, connect to communimesh using your wireless connection.
16. Double-click on the red switch icon again.
17. Click on the Settings tab.
18. Check the IF that has your new IP address and uncheck all others.
19. Click the Save button.
20. Right-click on Default in the file list and Send To-->Desktop (create shortcut).
21. Click Save to overwrite the Default with your new settings.
22. Close the OLSR window.
23. Delete the original red switch icon and rename "Shortcut to Default" to "OLSR".
24. Double-click on the OLSR red switch.
25. Click on the Nodes tab. You should see your neighbours listed.
26. Keep the OLSR window minimized to the taskbar to stay connected to the mesh.
